BARRY
UNIVERSITY JOINS FORCES WITH
AMERICA’S MOMS
FOR SOLDIERS
Barry
University’s Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee and
America’s Moms for Soldiers
are joining forces to help support troops currently serving in
Iraq and
Afghanistan. Students
and staff at
Barry
University in
Miami
Shores are currently running a
month-long donation drive in order to provide much needed supplies for monthly
care packages sent to troops overseas by
America’s Moms for
Soldiers.
America’s
Moms for Soldiers, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization based in
Pompano Beach,
sends monthly care packages to troops in
Iraq and
Afghanistan who
do not receive mail from home. Their mission to “Never Let a Soldier Walk Away
from Mail Call with Nothing” is one which is taken very seriously. In 2010
alone,
America’s Moms shipped
over 9,000 care packages to soldiers who were identified by commanders or
company chaplains as not receiving any mail.
On Tuesday, November 22 at
7pm, the
Barry
University men’s basketball team will
be hosting the Johnson and
Wales
University men’s
team. Fans who bring donation items to the game will receive raffle tickets
for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Miami Dolphins game against the
Oakland Raiders on December 4. At halftime, all of the donations which have
been collected throughout the campus will be on display in the gym.
America’s Moms, along
with the Wounded Warrior Project, and Barry’s own student vets will be
honored.
Tickets for the game are
available at the Barry University Health and
Sports
Center, 11300 NE 2 Avenue,
Miami
Shores, or by calling
the Center at 800-756-6000 x3550. Needed items can be found on the
America’s Moms for Soldiers
website at
www.americasmomsforsoldiers.com
or

University at
